Ben’s Visit July 16, 2007

Filed under: Uncategorized — Michelle @ 4:49 am

Ben left to go back to Michigan about an hour ago.  It was nice having him here for a few days and showing him around.  I'll see him again in 4 weeks in Florida.  We did a lot of the cliche tourist activities this weekend.  On Thursday, Ben joined me and some of my co-workers for a lunchtime walk to Coit Tower on Telegraph Hill.  We spent that evening on Haight Street shopping at Amoeba and The Booksmith and getting a drink.

On Friday, I took a half-day at work and we went to Fisherman's Wharf.  We went to Ghirardelli Square, the Hyde Street Pier, and Pier 39 before walking down to Pier 33 for our Alcatraz tour.

Alcatraz was very interesting.  Unfortunately, it was very foggy on the
Island that day, so we didn't get the great view.  We took the audio
tour and learned all about the prison.  After Alcatraz, we went and saw Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

On Saturday morning, we went to Chinatown and wandered around for
awhile.  After lunch, we went to Ocean Beach.  A day at the beach in
San
Francisco isn't a typical day at the beach.  It's cool and windy and
foggy and the Pacific is freezing, but it was still a lot of fun.

In the evening, we went to Lombard Street.  Then we went to North Beach to visit City Lights – a bookstore famous for being frequented by the beat generation – and the San Francisco Brewery.

Today, we were very tired from our weekend, so after church we relaxed.  We made a quick trip over to Alamo Square to see the Painted Ladies.  Then I took Ben to St. Ignatius to show him the gorgeous interior of the church.

I had a great weekend.  There are more pictures that I didn't include in the post, so take a look if you'd like.
