Rebel Angels and more November 13, 2007

I got so frustated trying to understand The Idea of the Holy, I gave up on schoolwork entirely yesterday and finished Rebel Angels instead.  It was good.  I enjoy the series, but I find it a little predictable.  I also get really annoyed that Gemma can't figure things out as quickly as I can.  :)  It's sort of like being frustrated by Harry for not going to Snape when he thought Sirius was in trouble.  Except the ends of Harry Potter kept me guessing while I was able to predict what would happen in this book pretty well.  But I will continue the series and I look forward to The Sweet Far Thing.

After finishing Rebel Angels, I should have gone back to studying, but instead my library copy of New Moon by Stephanie Meyer was calling my name.  I ended up reading the first 150 pages.  I can't explain how much I love these books.  I know I'm supposed to be too old for them, but I absolutely adore them.  I can't stop reading.  I was crying harder than I cried in a long time at one point and I finally had to tear myself away from the novel at midnight so that I could get some sleep.  If you haven't tried the Twilight series yet, I highly encourage you to.

Today, I've been pretty successful at staying away from New Moon and focusing on school, but I did promise myself that I could read some of it at 8 (14 minutes!).  Again, the casebooks were not keeping my attention, so I started next week's seminar book: My Life in France by Julia Child.  I've only just begun, but I have a feeling I'm going to like this one.  If only Rudolf Otto could have been half as interesting/understandable.

EDIT: Apparently making it to page 12 in The Idea of the Holy was right around average for the class.  The only people who read the entire thing were the four people who had to lead the discussion.
