Like getting a new iphone July 15, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — Michelle @ 2:41 pm

I was a little disappointed when they announced the new iphone a few weeks after I got mine.  But, it turns out that the software update available for existing users turns my iphone into a whole new toy.  My least favorite thing about the update is the loss of the bubbly calculator (it was really cute before and now it's just square and boring).  But, the plus side is all the new applications.  Here are my favorites (and they were all free):

  • Remote: Turns your iphone into an itunes remote.  You can control itunes from your phone as long as it is open on your computer.  No more getting up from the couch to change the song again!
  • Pandora: Pandora is now available directly on the iphone so when I get sick of my music, I can just listen to that.
  • Midomi: Hold your phone up to a speaker or start singing and the app will identify the song for you.  Very useful when listening to the radio.

Those are all music related, but there are a bunch of other useful free apps.  I now have basic phrasebooks in 4 languages, the entire Shakespeare library, an ereader, movie times, and helpful weather/sports updates.  I'm looking forward to see what new ones develop.

Wow, that's a lot of cool apps! Now I want an iphone, but I can't afford it since my parents currently pay for my phone. 😦

How long after you got your iPhone did they announce the new one? I read that people who bought an iPhone after May 27th get a free upgrade. Thought I'd let you know, although if you bought it before May 27th I'm sorry that this won't help you.

Yeah, I got it on May 3 for graduation. But it's fine because I didn't pay for the actual phone and the plan is actually cheaper this way. Have you gotten your phone yet? Did you decide if you're using it?

Oh that's cool – the best way to get an iPhone is to not pay for it yourself. :)Yup – they gave me an Apple gift card, and I went to the Apple Store on friday and got one of the new 16gig phones. I love it! 🙂 🙂

That's cool. After you actually won something, I finally signed up for the email lists of all the podcasts I listen to in the hopes of winning something as well. 😉

🙂 I hope it works for you too!

That is so cool! Especially the 4 languages! Guess that means you'll have to travel someplace…. 🙂
